Heartburn is the sensation when the acid from the stomach refluxes back into the esophagus and creates a burning sensation in your chest behind the breast bone. This pain can be very severe and sometimes can be mistaken for an actual heart attack. The best option with heartburn is to actually try and prevent it rather than wait until an attack and treat it then.
Heartburn can ruin your entire day or your entire night. In fact, some sufferers say that night time heartburn is worse then heartburn suffered during the day because it’s not only painful, it also robs you of needed sleep. One good way to prevent heartburn is my understanding which foods are most likely to cause it and then a liberating them from your diet.
Acid reflux is the main cause of heartburn, a burning sensation in the breastbone. The abnormality in the contraction of the lower esophageal sphincter caused the occurrence of acid reflux leading to heartburn. Symptoms include chest pain, constant burping, bloating and flatulence. Common treatment for acid reflux to avoid heartburn is antacid, a stomach acid neutralizer. Although drugs are effective to some people, you also have an option to stop heartburn naturally.
Fatty Foods and Oily Foods - Slows down digestion because they need special enzymes that can digest them. The problem with longer digestion, foods begin to pile up in the stomach increasing pressure to the sphincter of the esophagus and eventually give way. There goes the digestive acids again, burning the esophagus.
The most conventional heartburn foods, even though it is not necessarily the same for all are: acidic juices or fruits, greasy food and caffeine. All types of coffee and tea can generate heartburn as well as sodas that contain caffeine. The most common symptoms of heartburn are: a burning sensation and pain in the chest and heart area with other discomforts such as bloating and belching.
Usually greasy food, acidic juices and beverages that contain caffeine should be avoided for the right heartburn diet; those who are sensitive to heartburns will find spicy foods to be another cause of heartburn. The recommended food items for a heartburn diet are: cereals, baked pupates, bananas, carrots, apples and feta cheese.
Common treatment for heartburn which is a stomach acid neutralizer is antacid. Daily intake of antacid is effective to some people. Some people drink a lot of water to dilute acid concentration in the stomach which gives temporary relief. There are also medications like proton-pump inhibitors that blocks acid production in the stomach which provides immediate effective relief. Proper diet is also one consideration for people suffering from heartburn because there are certain foods that act as heartburn triggers.
Instead of a few large meals, short meals at regular intervals will be of immense help. Do not lie down immediately after the meal. Ensure that there is a gap of at least three hours between your meal and your nap. Keep your head in an elevated position when going to sleep. Use a wooden block or some other thing under the bed so that the height is raised by about 6 to 8 inches.
